Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This bill would amend Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A. to provide that all offices in Georgia would be elected on a partisan basis on and after January 1, 2015. Those entities with local Acts allowing nonpartisan elections in effect as of June 30, 2014 would be able to continue that practice if it were approved in a local referendum in conjunction with the 2014 November general election. As for county judicial offices, requirements are set in the bill for a referendum to determine if those offices would be elected on a partisan basis.
